Waggle Dance: Sun-Compass Transposition
3D honeybee waggle-dance simulator: watch the dance-floor run's angle from gravity get transposed live into a real sun-relative flight bearing as recruit bees launch from the hive, and see the dance recalibrate as the sun's position changes through the day.
This 3D scene isolates the geometric heart of the honeybee waggle dance: the transposition between gravity, on the dark vertical comb, and the sun, outdoors. A scout dances on the vertical comb face inside the hive on the left; its waggle run's angle from straight-up and its duration encode a real food source's bearing and distance. A swarm of instanced recruit bees launches from the hive entrance, converts that gravity-relative angle back into a sun-relative compass bearing using the current sun azimuth, and flies out over the field to the food marker. Drag the sun-position slider to see the dance angle recalibrate in real time — the same food source, the same real-world bearing, but a different angle on the comb, exactly as foraging bees compensate for the sun's movement through the day.
Observe the dynamic nature of the waggle dance as it changes with the sun's position. Rotate the sun azimuth slider to see how the dance angle adapts in real time.
