Species Diversity Simulator (2D)

2D community-diversity lab: adjust species richness, abundance evenness and total population and watch Shannon's H' and Simpson's D recompute live from a rendered population with a relative-abundance bar chart.

This 2D companion to Exploring Species Diversity drives the same core question — how do richness and evenness shape a community's diversity — through a plain canvas view built for reading the numbers rather than orbiting a biome: a side panel exposes species richness, abundance evenness and total population as independent sliders, a scatter of colored dots renders the resulting community as individuals rather than abstractions, and a ranked bar chart of relative abundances sits alongside live Shannon (H'), Simpson (D) and Pielou evenness (J') readouts so the effect of each parameter on real biodiversity math is visible instead of implied.

⚙ Under the hood

2D community-diversity lab with adjustable species richness, abundance evenness and total population, computing Shannon's H', Simpson's D, Pielou's J' and the effective-species (Hill) number live from the resulting rank-abundance distribution.
