Species Distribution Model: Gaussian Niche Modeling (2D)

2D niche-modeling lab: two independent environmental gradients (temperature, precipitation), a real Gaussian suitability function per gradient combined multiplicatively, and live sliders for niche optimum/tolerance that reshape the predicted range in real time.

This 2D companion strips the species-distribution model down to the math that actually drives it: a landscape with two independent environmental gradients (temperature and precipitation), a real Gaussian suitability curve per gradient, and a habitat-suitability field formed by multiplying the two together at every cell — the same envelope-model approach used by BIOCLIM-style correlative SDMs. Drag the niche optimum and tolerance sliders for each variable and watch the predicted range genuinely shift, shrink and expand across the map, rather than a decorative blob that only looks like it responds to the controls.
