Mountain Escalator to Extinction (2D)

2D cross-section lab: warm a cone-shaped mountain over simulated years and watch an alpine species' suitable elevation band get pushed upslope — habitat area and population shrinking until the band is squeezed off the summit.

This 2D companion drives the same elevational-band mechanic as the 3D version through a plain cross-section view: temperature falls with elevation at a fixed lapse rate, so the species' suitable band — sandwiched between two isotherms — shifts upslope as the mountain warms. Because the mountain is cone-shaped, the land area inside that band shrinks the higher it sits, and a logistic population model tracks the shrinking carrying capacity in real time until the band is pushed past the summit.
