Greener Urbanization: Heat Island & Air Quality (2D)

Interactive 2D city grid: adjust park coverage, green-roof adoption and tree canopy density and watch urban heat island intensity and air quality respond as the day cycles from dawn to night.

This 2D companion reads the same city-block heat and air-quality model as the 3D version from directly overhead: each grid cell is a building, a park, or a green-roofed building on a fixed street grid, and its temperature each frame is the day's ambient swing plus a heat term from surface imperviousness minus a distance-weighted cooling term from nearby greenery. Raise park coverage, green-roof adoption or canopy density and the grid visibly cools while the drifting smog dots thin out, tracking a live air-quality index.

⚙ Under the hood

A top-down city grid where park coverage, green-roof adoption and tree canopy density feed a distance-weighted heat/cooling model, driving a live heat-island delta and air-quality readout through a full day-night cycle.
