Ecological Interaction Types Simulator (2D)
Interactive 2D top-down simulator comparing the five classic ecological interaction types -- competition, predation, mutualism, commensalism and parasitism -- as a single generalized two-species population model, with a pannable/zoomable arena of drifting population swarms and a live population-history chart.
Ecologists sort every relationship between two species into one of five categories — competition, predation, mutualism, commensalism and parasitism — depending only on whether each partner gains, loses or is unaffected. This 2D top-down companion makes that classification concrete with the same generalized logistic-competition model as the 3D version: pick an interaction type and watch two drifting swarms of population markers (species A and species B) evolve, where only the sign and strength of the interaction term change between types. Live readouts track both populations, their instantaneous growth rates, and simulated time, with a scrolling chart of the population history so you can compare the qualitatively different outcomes — exclusion, one-sided lift, mutual boost (up to a hard-clamped runaway), or damped drain — that the very same equations produce. Drag to pan the arena and scroll to zoom in on the swarms.
