🧪 Geothermal Fracture Stimulation (2D)
A top-down companion to the 3D geothermal sim: watch pore pressure diffuse outward from an injection well, snap open a fracture network toward the production well, and see induced microseismicity and thermal drawdown unfold in real time.
This 2D companion strips the 3D scene down to a top-down reservoir map: a coarse pressure grid diffuses outward from the injection well while a procedurally grown fracture network snaps open once local pressure crosses each segment's critical-stress threshold — the same Mohr-Coulomb-style criterion used to explain induced seismicity at real Enhanced Geothermal Systems sites. Push injection pressure too high, too fast, and you will see more (and bigger) seismic events; run it as a pulsed cycle instead and the reservoir stimulates more gently.
A finite-difference pressure-diffusion grid feeds a discrete fracture network whose segments open via a cubic-law aperture rule once local pressure exceeds a randomized critical-stress threshold, each opening logged as a microseismic event; a coupled advection-diffusion temperature field tracks thermal drawdown as cold injected fluid reaches the production well.
