Legitimate and malicious packets each carry a hidden anomaly score drawn from overlapping distributions — exactly the statistical picture behind real IDS engines — so tightening the threshold catches more attacks at the cost of blocking more real users, while increasing attacker evasion narrows the gap between the two traffic types.
