COCOMO Effort Estimation Map
Interactive 2D COCOMO software cost model: drag across a KLOC x Effort Adjustment Factor heat map (or use the sliders) to see estimated effort, schedule and team size update live, alongside a log-log effort curve compared across Organic, Semi-detached and Embedded development modes.
Software effort estimation is one of the oldest hard problems in software engineering, and the COCOMO model is the classic answer: a single power-law relationship, effort equals a coefficient times project size raised to an exponent above one, tuned by a development mode and an adjustment factor for team and tooling quality. This simulator renders that relationship as a draggable 2D heat map over project size (KLOC) and the Effort Adjustment Factor, plus a log-log curve comparing all three development modes, with live readouts for estimated effort in person-months, schedule in months, and the average team size those two numbers imply.
