App Standby Buckets: Background Job Throttling (2D)
A 2D lane diagram of Android's App Standby Buckets: watch an app slide down the throttling ladder (Active → Working Set → Frequent → Rare → Restricted) as it goes unused, and see how many of its requested background jobs the OS actually lets run.
Mobile operating systems don't let background work run whenever an app wants — they throttle it based on how recently a human actually used the app. This 2D companion renders Android's App Standby Bucket ladder (Active → Working Set → Frequent → Rare → Restricted) as five horizontal lanes: an app marker slides down a lane as it goes unused, and a queue of requested background jobs only drains as fast as its current bucket's deferred-execution window allows. Toggle Battery Saver / Doze to see the windows widen further, and watch the gap between "jobs requested" and "jobs executed" grow as the app falls into Restricted.
