Colloidal particles jitter by Brownian motion; the step size obeys the Stokes–Einstein law D = kBT / (6πηr), so heat speeds them up and large or viscous-bound particles crawl. Whether they stay dispersed or flocculate is set by DLVO theory: a short-range van der Waals attraction competes with an electrostatic repulsion barrier. Adding salt screens the charge, the barrier falls, and touching particles stick to grow fractal aggregates (diffusion-limited cluster aggregation). Turn on gravity to watch heavy clusters settle.
