Emergency Cold Snap Protection for Beehives (2D)

2D cutaway hive cross-section with a live winter cluster: toggle an emergency wrap, entrance reducer, moisture quilt and candy board during a sudden hard freeze and watch cluster core/mantle temperature, condensation risk and isolation-starvation risk respond in real time.

This 2D companion draws a side-on cutaway of a beehive with a live winter cluster of bees, driven by the same thermal model as the 3D version. Bees hold a warm core near 34–35°C by shivering their flight muscles inside an insulating outer mantle; how tightly that mantle has to contract — and whether condensation or isolation starvation threatens the colony — depends on which fast emergency protections are in place. Toggle the emergency wrap, entrance reducer, moisture quilt and candy board, then drag the outside-temperature slider down into a hard freeze: the cluster visibly contracts or relaxes, condensation drips appear on the inner cover when moisture has nowhere to go, and the starvation-risk readout shows how long an unfed cluster can survive being cut off from stores just a few frames away — a candy board placed in direct contact removes that risk almost entirely.
