This simulator visualizes the Fenton reaction, the workhorse advanced oxidation process behind industrial and municipal wastewater treatment. Ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) particles collide with hydrogen peroxide to spawn short-lived hydroxyl radicals (·OH), which then hunt down and mineralize a population of dissolved pollutant molecules while the iron catalyst cycles between its Fe²⁺ and Fe³⁺ oxidation states. Adjust the catalyst dose, peroxide dose and solution pH to see how each shifts the real rate constants governing radical generation, and watch the live mineralization percentage, radical count and Fe³⁺/Fe²⁺ ratio track the reaction as it runs.
