Zinc Roasting — Shrinking-Core Furnace Cross-Section (2D)
A 2D furnace cross-section showing ZnS concentrate particles roasting under a real shrinking-core kinetic model: an unreacted sulfide core shrinks inward as a porous ZnO shell grows outward, releasing SO2, while excess temperature diverts some ZnO into insoluble zinc ferrite instead of leachable oxide.
A companion to the 3D smelter view: watch individual ZnS grains roast under a real shrinking-core kinetic model as they fall through the fluidized bed, tracking desulfurization, soluble Zn and the zinc-ferrite loss that appears when the bed runs too hot.
2D furnace cross-section companion to the 3D zinc-roasting smelter: the same temperature, oxygen-enrichment and concentrate-grade controls now drive a real shrinking-core kinetic model per ZnS grain (1-(1-X)^(1/3)=k·t/r0, k=k0·[0.3+0.7·O2/100]·exp(-Ea/RT)), so each grain's unreacted sulfide core visibly shrinks inside its growing ZnO shell as it falls through the fluidized bed, releasing SO2 and, past ~1300°C, diverting some ZnO into acid-insoluble zinc ferrite.
