Solvay Process: Ammonia-Soda Mass Balance (2D)
A stoichiometry-driven 2D companion to the Solvay-process 3D model: real molar mass balances drive brine saturation, cold-precipitation of NaHCO₃, calcination to Na₂CO₃ and lime-based ammonia recovery, with a live readout instead of a decorative factory tour.
The 3D original renders a generic refinery scene without real chemistry driving it, so this 2D companion instead runs the actual Solvay reaction chain as a molar mass balance: NH₃ + CO₂ + H₂O → NH₄HCO₃ in the saturator, NaCl + NH₄HCO₃ → NaHCO₃(s) + NH₄Cl in the precipitator (yield rises as the brine cools), 2 NaHCO₃ → Na₂CO₃ + H₂O + CO₂ on calcination, and lime regenerating NH₃ from NH₄Cl while leaving CaCl₂ as the process's only true byproduct.
Stoichiometric mass-balance model of the ammonia-soda (Solvay) process: four linked first-order reaction stages, a cold-precipitation efficiency curve, and a live readout of NaHCO₃, Na₂CO₃, CO₂ recycle, NH₃ recovery and NaCl utilization.
