Biomass-to-Liquid Reactor — 2D Cutaway

Interactive 2D cutaway of a biomass-to-liquid reactor: gasify biomass into syngas, tune the water-gas-shift equilibrium, and watch Fischer-Tropsch chain-growth polymerization sort hydrocarbon chains into gas, gasoline, diesel and wax bands by the real Anderson-Schulz-Flory distribution. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom.

This 2D side-view simulator runs the same full biomass-to-liquid chain as the 3D version: a gasifier column bubbles CO and H₂ produced from biomass, with the mix set by a real water-gas-shift equilibrium correlation; that syngas then feeds a Fischer-Tropsch reactor where hydrocarbon chains grow one carbon at a time according to the Anderson-Schulz-Flory chain-growth model. Every chain that forms is sampled from the real ASF probability distribution and settles into a layered product column — fuel gas, gasoline, diesel or wax — by its own carbon number. Drag the canvas to pan around the reactor cutaway and scroll to zoom in on either vessel.

⚙ Under the hood

A 2D side-view cutaway of a biomass gasifier feeding a Fischer-Tropsch reactor: tune gasifier temperature and steam ratio to shift the water-gas-shift equilibrium, then tune FT bed temperature and feed rate to watch Anderson-Schulz-Flory chain-growth sort product droplets into gas, gasoline, diesel and wax bands. Drag to pan and scroll to zoom.
