Green Solvent Selection Map (2D)

Interactive 2D solvent-selection scatter plot: weight Health, Safety and Environment criteria on a CHEM21-style green-solvent scorecard and watch 14 real solvents re-rank live on a Health x Environment plane (circle size = Safety), with a substitution arrow pointing from the worst hazard to the best greener match. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom.

Choosing a solvent is one of the first and highest-leverage decisions in making a chemical process greener, but "greener" is never a single number — it trades off worker health, process safety and environmental persistence, and the right balance shifts with the reaction. This 2D simulator plots fourteen real solvents on a Health x Environment (or any two axes you pick) scatter plane modelled on industrial solvent-selection guides (CHEM21, GSK, Pfizer), with the third axis encoded as circle size, lets you re-weight the three criteria live to see the ranking shift, filters candidates by whether their polarity actually matches the reaction, and always draws a substitution arrow from the worst-scoring solvent in view to the current best replacement. Drag to pan and scroll to zoom the plot.

⚙ Under the hood

2D scatter-plot version of a CHEM21-style green-solvent scorecard: weight Health, Safety and Environment criteria to re-rank 14 real solvents live on a Health x Environment plane (or any pair of axes you pick), with the hidden third axis shown as circle size and a red arrow suggesting the best substitute for the worst-scoring solvent. Drag to pan and scroll to zoom the plot.
