🧪 Philosophy Philosophy Of Mind Simulation

An interactive Integrated Information Theory (IIT) simulator: two coupled 6-node Boolean networks whose bridge strength you control, with a live-computed Φ (minimum information partition) measuring how unified vs. split the system's information really is.

This simulation builds a small, concrete model of one of the leading physicalist theories of consciousness — Integrated Information Theory — and lets you manipulate it directly. Two three-unit "modules" of a stochastic Boolean network sit side by side; a bridge-strength slider is the only thing connecting them, from fully split to tightly coupled. On every tick the simulator replays the last 300 states through every possible bipartition of the six units and reports Φ, the minimum information a partition can still explain away — the network's own measure of how "unified" its information really is, versus how much it just amounts to two separate processes running side by side. Turning noise up or down shows that integration isn't about wiring alone: it has to actually appear in the system's behaviour. It's a hands-on way to see what it would mean, formally, for a physical system's information structure to be a unified subjective state rather than a bundle of independent parts — one concrete proposal for how the philosophy-of-mind question "what is the relationship between mind and body" could be answered without adding anything beyond physics.

⚙ Under the hood

This simulation tackles complex questions about consciousness, mental states, and the relationship between mind and body. Explore theories of intentionality and subjectivity.
