Wildfire Spread Command: 2D Cellular-Automaton Fire Model

A probabilistic cellular-automaton wildfire model: wind speed and direction, humidity and clustered fuel density each shape a live fire front spreading across a vegetation grid. Click anywhere on the grid to drop a spot fire.

This 2D companion trades the 3D version's decorative flythrough for the actual mechanics of fire spread: a grid of vegetation cells where each cell's chance of igniting depends on how dense its fuel is, how humid the air is, and how well it lines up with the wind — so the same fire crawls slowly through damp, patchy woodland or tears across dry, dense, downwind terrain purely from the sliders, with a click anywhere to drop your own spot fire.

⚙ Under the hood

Cellular-automaton wildfire spread model: each burning cell tests its 8 neighbours every tick with an ignition probability built from fuel density, humidity and a wind-alignment factor, following the structure of published forest-fire CA models.
