Mole Tunnel Navigation Lab (2D): Scent-Gradient Foraging
2D mole-foraging lab: a chemotaxis biased-random-walk model blends scent-gradient ascent with exploration noise, soil density drags speed and burns energy, and a live readout tracks nodes found, average energy and distance covered.
This 2D companion runs the same underground-foraging idea as the 3D version through a plain top-down canvas: a colony of moles each blend scent-gradient ascent toward buried food nodes with a drifting exploration heading, weighted by the sensitivity slider, while soil density drags their top speed and taxes their energy per metre travelled. A live readout tracks nodes found, average colony energy and total distance covered, and a mole that runs out of energy visibly idles and dims until it recovers — turning the tradeoff between cautious exploration and committed gradient-following into something you can watch happen.
2D chemotaxis foraging lab: each mole's heading blends normalized scent-gradient ascent with a slowly-drifting random direction, weighted by the sensitivity slider; soil density both caps top speed and multiplies the energy cost of movement, and exhausted moles idle and regenerate instead of collapsing the simulation.
