🧪 Transcendent Biotech Infinite Life Simulation
Interactive 3D telomere-shortening simulation: watch a colony of cells divide, shorten their telomeres each cycle, and hit the Hayflick limit — then dial up telomerase activity to see how cancer and stem cells escape senescence for unbounded growth.
This simulation grows a live colony of cells in 3D, each one carrying its own telomere length. Every division shortens a cell's telomeres a little, exactly as the end-replication problem does in real chromosomes, until the Hayflick limit is reached and the cell becomes senescent — alive but permanently non-dividing. Dial telomerase activity up and the colony stops aging out: divisions keep going indefinitely, the same mechanism that lets germline cells, stem cells and roughly 90% of cancers achieve unbounded replicative "immortality," balanced only by a constant background rate of programmed cell death.
This simulation explores the concept of self-sustaining biological systems and their potential for indefinite growth and evolution. It demonstrates how complex interactions within a population can lead to emergent properties and potentially infinite cycles of life and death, highlighting principles of ecology and evolutionary biology.
