🦠 European Foulbrood: Diagnosis & Recovery Management Lab
A side-by-side 3D brood-comb model comparing European and American foulbrood, letting you dial colony stress and spore load and run the diagnostic ropy test to see why one colony can recover and the other cannot.
A side-by-side 3D brood comb comparing European foulbrood (EFB) with American foulbrood (AFB) — dial colony stress and spore load, apply a stress-reduction plan over time, and run the diagnostic ropy test to see why one colony has a real path to recovery and the other does not.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
EFB infection rate tracks colony stress and falls as a stress-reduction plan (requeening, shook-swarm, better forage) takes effect over days. AFB infection rate tracks spore load alone and never improves with stress management — cappings turn sunken and perforated, and a ropy-test probe pulls a stretchy thread from the scale, the classic field diagnostic.
🎮 How to Use
Move the stress and spore-load sliders to change how heavily each comb is infected. Turn on the management toggle and advance the days slider to watch the EFB comb heal. Click the ropy-test button to probe a sample cell on both combs and compare results.
💡 Did You Know?
Because AFB spores can remain viable in comb and equipment for over 40 years, most regions legally require destruction or intensive supervised treatment of AFB-positive colonies — while EFB-affected colonies are often left to recover once the underlying stress is addressed.
