Orb-Weaver Spider Web Mechanics (3D)

Full 3D spring-network model of an orb-weaver's web: an insect strikes the silk from any angle, bulging the whole net backward as its momentum spreads and dissipates across non-linear, breakable threads.

This is a full 3D spring-network simulation of an orb-weaver's web strung between a fixed frame: stiff radial spokes plus a more elastic capture spiral, each thread a non-linear spring with a real silk breaking strain. Click the web to send an insect flying in from a random direction in space — its momentum spreads through the connected threads and can bulge the whole net backward out of its resting plane, a true three-dimensional deformation this flat 2D version can't show. Orbit the camera freely, tune the insect's mass and speed, the silk's stiffness and breaking strain, and how densely the spiral is wound, then watch which threads snap first.

⚙ Under the hood

3D spring-network simulation of an orb-weaver's radial-and-spiral web, where an insect's impact momentum spreads and dissipates across non-linear silk threads that stretch, bulge the web out of its plane, and snap past a real breaking strain.
