Dual-Route Word Naming Race (2D)
A 2D schematic circuit diagram of the dual-route (lexical vs. non-lexical) reading-aloud race: watch two neural pathways race along labeled nodes to pronounce a word, and see how word frequency and spelling regularity change which route wins and whether the output is correct.
This 2D companion looks at the same dual-route reading-aloud race as the 3D Dual-Route Word Naming model, redrawn as a flat, labeled circuit diagram: a non-lexical route that sounds out letters piece-by-piece using spelling-to-sound rules, and a lexical-semantic route that recognizes the whole word and retrieves its meaning and pronunciation directly from memory. Choose a stimulus word or nonword, adjust its frequency and your simulated processing speed, and watch which route reaches the shared output node first along the diagram — and, for irregularly-spelled words, whether the winner produces the correct pronunciation or a telltale regularization error, the same error pattern documented in surface dyslexia.
