GIS-Based Apiary Site Selection Methodology (2D Map)

2D top-down GIS suitability-map lab: weight forage, water, slope and risk layers, hover any cell for its score breakdown, and watch the best apiary site update live.

This 2D companion drives the same four-factor GIS weighted-overlay scoring as the 3D version — forage proximity, water buffer distance, terrain flatness from a finite-difference slope estimate, and distance from a hazard zone — through a plain top-down heatmap instead of an extruded 3D landscape. A 48×48 raster grid recomputes every cell's suitability score live as you move the weight sliders, hovering any cell reveals its exact score and per-layer breakdown in a tooltip, and clicking drops a candidate marker you can compare directly against the automatically-tracked best site, making the underlying weighted-overlay math — the same method real GIS practitioners use in QGIS or ArcGIS — easier to read at a glance than orbiting a 3D scene.

⚙ Under the hood

2D top-down GIS suitability-map lab with a 48×48 raster grid, weighted-overlay scoring across forage, water, slope and risk layers, a hover tooltip with the full score breakdown per cell, and a click-to-drop candidate marker compared against the live best-site tracker.
