This 2D side-view simulator races a dimpled golf ball against a smooth reference ball of the same size, mass and launch speed. A turbulent boundary layer forms over the dimples and delays flow separation, roughly halving the drag coefficient compared with the smooth ball's early-separating laminar layer — the same "drag crisis" that makes real golf balls fly so much farther than smooth ones. Adjust launch speed, angle and backspin rate to see how Magnus lift from backspin flattens the arc and extends carry distance, and toggle dimples off entirely to watch the flight collapse back to smooth-ball drag.

⚙ Under the hood

A 2D side-view simulator comparing a dimpled golf ball against a smooth reference ball, showing how the turbulent boundary layer delays flow separation, cuts drag via the drag crisis, and how backspin Magnus lift shapes the flight arc and carry distance.
