Time is of the essence. Prioritize immediate assessment for these key signs: altered level of consciousness (confusion, disorientation), persistent shortness of breath, significant trauma, or any concerning symptom requiring urgent medical attention.

Initial Response – The First Few Minutes

Stay calm and assess the situation. Ensure your own safety before approaching the patient.

Call for help immediately: dial emergency services (999 or local equivalent). Provide precise location details, nature of the emergency, and number of patients involved.

Basic First Aid – Immediate Actions

Control any bleeding by applying direct pressure with a clean cloth. Elevate the injured limb if possible.

If the patient is unconscious but breathing, position them on their side (recovery position) to prevent choking.

Maintaining Stability – Ongoing Care

Continue monitoring the patient’s vital signs (pulse, breathing rate, level of consciousness) until medical professionals arrive.
