Penguins Keeping Warm — 2D Huddle Thermoregulation Lab
A top-down 2D companion to the 3D huddle scene: cold penguins on the outer rim shuffle inward toward the warm centre while warm penguins near the core drift back out, driving a slow rotation through the colony — the same thermoregulation behaviour read as a clean overhead map with a live average-temperature and rotation readout.
This 2D companion strips the huddle scene down to an overhead view of the same thermoregulation rule driving the 3D version: each penguin's temperature drifts toward a target set by its distance from the colony centre and the outside-cold slider, cold outer birds below 20°C push inward while warm inner birds above 30°C drift back out to make room, and simple separation and boundary forces keep the huddle from collapsing or scattering — the same slow rotation the 3D scene shows, read here as a clean top-down map with live average-temperature, rotation-count and cold/warm-headcount readouts.
2D top-down penguin-huddle lab: distance-based temperature field, cold-outer/warm-inner shuffling forces, separation and boundary containment, and a live average temperature / rotation-count readout panel.
