Moose Wetland Foraging Lab (2D)
A 2D top-down energy-budget foraging lab: moose seek out the nearest active aquatic-plant patch, feed until it depletes, and pay a speed penalty crossing boggy mud, so herd size, bog difficulty and plant nutrition visibly trade off against how much energy the herd can sustain.
This 2D companion trades the 3D lab's orbiting marsh scene for a readable top-down energy-budget model. Each moose steers toward the nearest still-active forage patch and feeds while inside its radius, restoring energy at a rate the plant-nutrition slider sets; a heavily grazed patch empties and goes dormant for a cooldown before regrowing, so a concentrated herd can outpace regrowth. Scattered mud patches apply a bog-drag speed penalty scaled by the bog-difficulty slider, meaning a herd pinned in difficult wetland spends more of its energy budget just moving and less feeding — the same terrain-versus-forage trade-off that shapes real ungulate habitat selection, made directly adjustable instead of just implied by a static scene.
2D wetland energy-budget foraging simulation: moose seek the nearest active forage patch, feed and deplete it at a rate set by plant nutrition, regrow depleted patches after a cooldown, and lose speed to a bog-drag penalty scaled by bog difficulty while crossing mud.
