🦕 Dinosaurs (2D): Herd & Predator-Prey Behaviour Lab
A flat Canvas2D dinosaur habitat: herbivores graze and flee, predators hunt the nearest straggler, and a live panel tracks population, herd speed and eggs collected in real time.
This 2D companion runs the exact same herd and predator-prey rules as the 3D version — herbivores graze on dropped food and collect eggs, while carnivores continuously steer toward the nearest herbivore straggler — but draws everything as flat "paper cutout" shapes directly on a Canvas2D context instead of a WebGL scene. A live side panel adds something the 3D build doesn't show: population, herbivore/predator split, eggs collected and the herd's average speed, updated ten times a second, plus a third slider — Predator drive — that scales how hard carnivores accelerate toward prey, making the safety-in-numbers effect of herding directly tunable.
Canvas2D dinosaur habitat with herding, predator-prey chase behaviour, food/egg pickup and meteor strikes, plus a live population/speed readout panel not present in the 3D build.
