Ant Colony — 2D Pheromone Trail Lab
A top-down 2D companion to the 3D colony scene: the same ants shuttle between the nest and food clusters, laying orange (outbound) and green (food-found) pheromone dots into a rolling trail buffer that fades over time, read here as a clean overhead map instead of an orbiting camera.
This 2D companion drives the same mechanic as the 3D version through a plain top-down canvas: ants leave the nest at the centre, wander until a food cluster comes within range, then switch to a "returning" state and head straight back, laying pheromone dots along the way that fade at a rate you control. Orange dots mark the outbound leg, green dots mark the trip back with food, and a rolling 4,000-point buffer keeps the most recent trail visible while older dots fade out — the same positive-feedback foraging behavior the 3D scene shows, but readable at a glance without orbiting a camera.
2D top-down ant colony lab: exploring/returning state machine, a decaying rolling pheromone-dot buffer, and live deliveries/trail-point/exploring/returning readouts.
