Interleaved vs. Blocked Practice: The Contextual Interference Effect
Interactive simulator of the contextual interference effect: train three skills either blocked, interleaved or random and watch how each order trades immediate practice accuracy against long-term retention.
What is the best order to practice several skills — one at a time in long blocks, or all mixed together? This simulator trains three skills, tower A / B / C, under a chosen practice schedule and visualizes each skill's memory as a growing column (long-term strength) topped by a fading glow ring (short-term priming). A live trial history and two readouts — immediate in-session accuracy versus predicted retention after a rest interval you control — make the counterintuitive result visible: interleaving looks worse while you are training, and wins after the training stops.
This simulation demonstrates various learning strategies and their impact on knowledge retention. Users can experiment with different approaches to optimize their learning process.
