🧪 Drone Swarm Formation Morphing (2D)
Top-down 2D companion to the 3D drone swarm sim: hundreds of drones eased between six formations, with altitude re-encoded as brightness and glow radius the way a real spotter camera reads a drone show from the ground.
This 2D companion reuses the exact coordinate math the 3D version uses to place each drone — the fibonacci-disc, grid, torus-band and wave generators literally share their x/z formulas with the 3D InstancedMesh swarm — and draws it from directly overhead instead of orbiting a camera around it. The one formation that doesn't survive a straight top-down projection is the helix: viewed from above, a vertical spiral collapses into a plain circle, so it's swapped here for a genuinely 2D formation, an Archimedean spiral (radius growing linearly with angle). Wherever the 3D version used height, this view encodes it as brightness and glow radius instead, exactly how a ground spotter actually reads a real drone-show swarm at night, with a live readout tracking the current/next formation, morph phase and progress, and the swarm's average per-frame speed.
