Autonomous Smart Seaport: 2D Terminal Flow Simulator

A top-down container terminal where ships arrive as a Poisson process and queue for one of three berths; cranes unload onto a limited buffer, and autonomous AGVs shuttle each container from crane to yard and back — queues, throughput and crane stalls all emerge from the live queueing dynamics.

The 3D original for this sim turned out to be a mislabeled shared-template stub — a generic decorative scene generator reused across dozens of unrelated "themed world" pages, with no real port logistics driving it. This 2D companion builds the real mechanic instead: ships arrive as a Poisson process and queue for a free berth; each berth's crane unloads containers onto a small buffer at a fixed rate and stalls once that buffer fills; idle AGVs pick up buffered containers and shuttle them to the yard and back, so queue length, crane stalls and throughput all emerge from the interaction of arrival rate, crane speed and fleet size.

⚙ Under the hood

Ship inter-arrival times are drawn from an exponential distribution (a Poisson arrival process); each crane advances its unload progress at a fixed containers-per-minute rate into a capped buffer that stalls the crane when full; idle AGVs are dispatched to the fullest buffer, travel to the berth, then to the yard, then return — so fleet size and crane speed jointly set the terminal's realized throughput.
