Wave Interference Simulation (2D)

A top-down heat-map view of two circular wave sources: drag the second source, tune frequency, amplitude, spacing and damping, and read the live wavelength and crest height as constructive and destructive interference fringes form.

This 2D companion renders the same two-source interference field as the 3D version — the sum of two circular waves, r₁ and r₂ from each source — as a top-down color heat map instead of a displaced 3D mesh, so the constructive (bright) and destructive (dark) fringe pattern is easier to read at a glance. Click anywhere on the canvas to relocate the second source and watch the fringe geometry redraw in real time.

⚙ Under the hood

Height at each point is A·(sin(r₁·k−ωt)+sin(r₂·k−ωt))·exp(−damping·(r₁+r₂)), mapped to color per pixel on a sampled grid, redrawn every frame.
