Standing Waves: Multi-Source Interference (2D)

A top-down ripple-tank view where 1–5 point sources emit circular waves that sum by linear superposition, colour-mapped from trough to crest in real time. Drag a source to reshape the interference pattern.

This 2D companion renders the same multi-source circular-wave superposition as the 3D version — each source contributes an amplitude that falls off with distance and oscillates as A·sin(k·r − ωt + φ) — but reads it top-down as a flat, color-mapped height field instead of an orbiting 3D surface, so the interference fringes, nodal lines and moving hot spots are easier to read at a glance. Drag any source to reshape the pattern live.

⚙ Under the hood
