Cell Division: Mitosis & Meiosis Simulator (2D)

2D top-down mitosis and meiosis lab: chromosomes condense, congress to the metaphase plate, and split to opposite poles, with a visible crossing-over chiasma during meiosis I and live stage readouts.

This 2D companion drives the same mitosis/meiosis cell cycle as the 3D version through a plain top-down canvas view built for reading the mechanics rather than orbiting a scene: a side panel switches between Mitosis, Meiosis I and Meiosis II, sets how many homologous chromosome pairs the starting cell carries and how fast the spindle cycles through prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase, and toggles a visible crossing-over chiasma that links homologous chromosomes during meiosis I prophase — the physical step that shuffles alleles between maternal and paternal chromosomes. A live readout panel tracks the current stage, stage progress, ploidy (2N → N or 2N → 2N), how many daughter cells result and how many full divisions have run, making the difference between mitosis's identical daughters and meiosis's genetically distinct haploid gametes directly countable instead of implied.

⚙ Under the hood

2D top-down mitosis/meiosis lab with a nuclear-envelope fade, metaphase-plate congression, poleward chromosome separation, cytokinesis furrow and a toggleable meiosis-I crossing-over chiasma, all driven by live stage and ploidy readouts.
