Zen Garden Raked Sand (2D)

A top-down companion to the 3D zen garden scene: a rake wanders a slow path through sand around mossy rock clusters, carving grooves as it goes — or drag on the sand yourself to rake it by hand, switch the base pattern, and watch live coverage climb.

This 2D lab views the same raked-sand garden from directly overhead instead of an orbitable 3D camera: three rock clusters sit on a sand bed, and a rake follows a slow wandering path around them, carving fresh grooves that blend into a static base pattern of concentric rings, long wavy lines, or a single spiral — pick which with the pattern selector. A groove-width slider controls how wide a swath the rake's tines disturb, a speed slider controls how quickly it wanders, and switching on manual mode hands the rake to your own mouse or finger so you can drag it across the sand and draw your own lines, with a live readout tracking how much of the bed you've covered.

⚙ Under the hood

A height field over a sand grid is displaced by a moving rake using the same distance-falloff groove math as the 3D version — auto-traced along a Lissajous-style wandering path or driven directly by pointer input in manual mode — with the fresh grooves blended on top of a selectable static base pattern (concentric rings around the rock clusters, wavy lines, or a spiral).
