NEMS Resonant Mass Sensor Simulator
Interactive nanoelectromechanical (NEMS) resonant mass sensor: watch a vibrating nanoscale cantilever detect individual particles landing on it through a measurable resonant frequency shift, with particle mass tunable in real time.
This simulator visualizes a nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) resonant mass sensor — a suspended nanoscale cantilever driven to vibrate at its natural resonant frequency. As individual particles land on the beam, its total mass increases very slightly, lowering the resonant frequency in a way that can be tracked with extreme precision. Watch the cantilever oscillate in 3D, see particles adsorb onto its surface, and follow the live frequency-vs-time chart as each landing produces a small, discrete downward step — the same signature real NEMS sensors use to detect and weigh individual viruses and molecules. Adjust the particle mass and landing rate to see how they shape the detection signal.
Visualizes a nanoelectromechanical (NEMS) resonant mass sensor: a suspended nanoscale cantilever vibrates at its natural resonant frequency f0 = (1/2pi)*sqrt(k/m). As individual particles land on the beam its total mass rises slightly, lowering f0 by a measurable amount, with a live frequency-vs-time chart showing each landing as a discrete downward step.
