⚓ Liverpool: Maritime Trading Port & Birthplace of the Beatles
An interactive 3D dockside scene visualizing Liverpool's maritime trade routes and waterfront growth, paired with a timeline explorer of the city's musical heritage.
Scrub through three centuries of Liverpool's waterfront — from a single tidal dock to the Victorian "Three Graces" skyline and today's regenerated docklands — while ships sail historic trade routes and the Cavern Club quarter lights up with Beatles heritage.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
Liverpool's waterfront grew in step with its trade volume: the year slider grows or shrinks the dockside skyline and changes ship traffic and rig type, while route arcs show the real transatlantic and Irish Sea trading lanes that built the port's wealth.
🎮 How to Use
Drag the Year slider to travel from 1720 to 2020, adjust Trade volume to fill or empty the river with ships, toggle trade routes on or off, and switch on the Beatles heritage spotlight to illuminate Mathew Street's Cavern Club quarter.
💡 Did You Know?
Liverpool opened the world's first commercial enclosed wet dock in 1715, and by the mid-1800s handled roughly 40% of the world's trade — a legacy still visible in its UNESCO-recognised waterfront architecture.
