How Bees Talk (2D): Waggle-Dance Angle & Duration Decoder
2D top-down waggle-dance lab: two scout bees encode bearing as dance angle and distance as waggle-run duration on the vertical comb, while the colony's workforce reallocates between a near and a far flower patch as you change nectar quality.
This 2D companion drives the same attractiveness, dance-vigour and quorum-allocation model as the 3D version through a plain top-down canvas built for reading the mechanism rather than orbiting a scene: the left panel is the vertical comb where each scout's waggle run traces its bearing as an angle from "up" and its distance as run duration, and the right panel is the field those bearings actually point at, with recruited bees visibly flying out toward whichever patch is currently winning. Nectar quality, recruitment sensitivity and the flight-cost penalty all drive the same softmax vigour split that steers the workforce-allocation bar, so you can watch the colony's decision emerge from two independent, locally-informed dances rather than any single bee comparing the patches.
