Firefly Flash Synchronization: Pulse-Coupled Model (2D)

2D Mirollo-Strogatz pulse-coupled integrate-and-fire model: each firefly's phase climbs toward a flash threshold and gives nearby unflashed fireflies a real discrete phase-jump kick on firing, provably converging to synchrony — tune coupling, population and frequency spread and watch the order parameter climb.

This 2D companion implements the actual Mirollo–Strogatz pulse-coupled integrate-and-fire model behind firefly synchronization, distinct from the continuous Kuramoto phase-coupling used by other simulations on this site: each firefly's phase rises toward a flash threshold and, on firing, delivers a real discrete phase-jump kick to nearby unflashed fireflies rather than a continuous nudge, including the cascading "absorption" effect that is the mathematical core of the model's proof of convergence — watch the live order parameter climb as coupling strength, population size, interaction radius and frequency spread are tuned.
