🐝 The Beekeeper's Code: Apiary Siting & Neighbourly Duty Lab
A 3D garden-and-boundary model showing how flyway barrier height, hive setback distance and apiary density change a honeybee flight path and the nuisance risk to neighbours.
A side-on 3D model of two adjoining gardens: an apiary on one side of a boundary fence and a neighbour on the other, showing how a flyway barrier, hive setback and apiary density change where bees fly and how much nuisance risk they create.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
A hedge or board placed close to the hive entrance forces bees to climb steeply before reaching the boundary, so they cross it well above head height — the everyday engineering behind the legal concept of "reasonable precautions" in nuisance law.
🎮 How to Use
Raise the flyway barrier, pull the hives back from the boundary, or add more hives, and watch the flight path and the traffic-light nuisance-risk indicator respond in real time.
💡 Did You Know?
There is no licence to keep bees in the UK, but courts can still find a beekeeper liable in nuisance if foragers repeatedly and unreasonably interfere with a neighbour's enjoyment of their garden.
A 3D garden-and-boundary simulation showing how flyway barrier height, hive setback distance and apiary density reshape a honeybee flight path and a live traffic-light nuisance-risk estimate for neighbours.
