Honeybee Waggle-Dance Foraging & Recruitment (2D)

Scout bees search a meadow for nectar; every successful trip home feeds a waggle-dance recruitment signal weighted by patch quality and distance, so idle bees get recruited toward whichever flower patch is currently paying off best.

This 2D companion trades the 3D original's shared decorative boid-drift template — the same generic swarm engine reused across dozens of unrelated titles from beehives to gravity wells — for a real communication model: bees start as unrecruited scouts, a successful forager's return trip contributes a recruitment "vote" to its patch scaled by nectar quality and inverse distance, and that signal decays continuously so idle bees get pulled toward whichever patch is currently paying off, not a fixed one.

⚙ Under the hood

2D honeybee foraging lab: scout bees search a meadow, and every successful trip feeds a waggle-dance recruitment signal weighted by quality and distance, so idle bees are recruited toward the richest known flower patch while obstacles force real in-flight navigation.
