An interferometer's resolution is set by the longest baseline B: θ ≈ λ/B (radians). Two dishes give sinusoidal fringes from the geometric path difference B·sinθ. Many baselines (VLA Y, VLBI) synthesise the resolving power of one huge dish — far sharper than any single dish.
