🐝 Pollination Ecology & Ecosystem Services Lab
A 3D wildflower meadow where bees fly between plant species, cross-pollinating flowers into seed while you control pollinator numbers, colony decline and habitat diversity.
A live 3D meadow where bees forage across wildflower species, carrying pollen from plant to plant — and where cross-pollination between same-species flowers is drawn out as a growing golden network.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
Each bee remembers the species of the last flower it visited; landing on a different plant of the same species completes a pollination event and grows a seed pod, while lower pollinator numbers or habitat diversity sharply cut the share of flowers ever pollinated.
🎮 How to Use
Adjust pollinator population, wildflower diversity and density, and drag the pollinator decline slider to see a colony-collapse-style scenario play out on seed-set and network connectivity in real time.
💡 Did You Know?
Around 87% of the world's flowering plant species depend at least partly on animal pollinators — far beyond the crops that make it into a supermarket.
