Coral Reef Ecosystem: Bleaching & Trophic Cascade Lab (2D)

2D top-down coral reef model: warming water bleaches coral, nutrient runoff feeds algae, fish graze it back and sharks keep fish in check — drag all four and watch the reef's health index respond in real time.

This 2D companion trades the 3D version's orbiting camera for a plain top-down reef you can actually read: four sliders drive a small coupled-ODE ecosystem model — water temperature bleaches coral once it crosses a threshold, nutrient runoff feeds algae that competes with coral for space, a flocking fish population grazes the algae back down, and reef sharks culling that fish population create a visible top-down trophic cascade — while a live readout tracks reef health, coral cover, algae cover and fish population as they respond.
