Genetic Cars: Evolutionary Vehicle Selection (3D)
The same genetic-algorithm car evolution as the 2D lab — random polygon chassis and wheels, survivors bred and mutated each generation — rendered as real extruded 3D bodies rolling across a 3D terrain ribbon you can orbit and zoom around.
This 3D companion drives the exact same genetic algorithm as the 2D Genetic Cars lab: each car's chassis is a random convex polygon with two to four wheels attached at random vertices, a population of candidates rolls across procedurally generated terrain under gravity, and once every car has crashed or stalled the five furthest survivors are selected as parents — their polygon lengths and wheel radii crossed over and mutated to produce the next generation. Instead of a flat canvas view, the chassis, wheels and terrain are built as real extruded Three.js geometry lit with directional and hemisphere lights, so you can drag to orbit the camera around the evolving population, watch the wheels actually spin on their axles as cars accelerate, and see the terrain ribbon regenerate in three dimensions between generations. Sliders for population size, mutation rate and gravity let you directly perturb the evolutionary pressure and watch how it changes which chassis shapes survive.
