Haplodiploidy & the csd Gene: Polyandry Lab (2D)

A 2D hex-comb model of honey bee haplodiploidy: patrilines fill the brood comb while csd allele diversity sets the lethal diploid-drone rate, genetic diversity index and colony resilience — all live.

This 2D companion mirrors the 3D hive's csd-locus genetics on a flat hex comb: each cell fills with its drone-father's patriline colour, and any egg that lands homozygous at the csd gene becomes a non-viable diploid drone, flagged red and cleared by the model — the same "pepper-pot" signature beekeepers read in real colonies.

⚙ Under the hood

P(homozygous) ≈ 2 / n over the population's csd allele count; colony diversity is a Simpson index over surviving patrilines, and resilience combines low diploid loss with high diversity.
