📡 Smart Hive Monitoring: What IoT Sensors Can and Cannot Tell You

Interactive 3D hive fitted with simulated IoT sensors where toggling each sensor type shows which colony conditions it reliably detects versus what still requires a manual inspection.

A 3D beehive fitted with a simulated weight scale, brood thermometer and acoustic sensor across five colony scenarios — toggle each sensor to see what it reliably reports, then pull a frame for a manual inspection to see what only a beekeeper's eyes can find.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

Weight tracks nectar flow well, brood temperature stays deceptively flat through most problems, and acoustic sensors catch some behavioural shifts — but mites, missing queens and queen cells stay invisible to all three until you open the hive.

🎮 How to Use

Pick a colony scenario, toggle the weight, temperature and acoustic sensors on and off, and watch their readouts and in-scene overlays respond. Click "Open frame" to pull the brood comb forward and reveal the ground truth.

💡 Did You Know?

Varroa mite infestations produce almost no distinctive signature in weight, temperature or sound data — which is why regular manual inspections remain essential even on the most sensor-packed smart hives.
